ECI announces elections for vacant LC seat

Jammu, Feb 17: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday said that bye-election for one seat of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council would be held on March 15. The LC seat had fallen vacant due to the death of MLC Yashpal Khajuria, who passed on December 27 last year.
 The notification in this regard will be issued on March 6 and the candidates would be given six days to file nominations and last date to file nominations would be March 12.
 The nominations will be scrutinized on March 13 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures will be March 15.
 The polling for the said seat would be held on March 22 in between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and the counting of votes will also be held on the same day at 3 pm. The ECI has also asked the state government to complete the election for the vacant seat before March 26.
