Bandipora, Feb 18: Maintaining that Jammu and Kashmir Police would take all measures to maintain lasting peace in the State, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) S M Sahai today said that cases against the youth only involved in stone pelting would be withdrawn.
The IGP was addressing Police Durbar at Police Lines in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district in which a large number of people including senior citizens, Sarpanchs, Panchs and youth participated. “Cases against the youth who are only involved in stone pelting and have no involvement in life or property damage would be withdrawn,” Sahai said, adding, “We have referred the list of such youth to the government and are waiting for its decision.”
“The aim of conducting Police Durbars is to come closer to the people and help in bridging the gap between the police and public,” the IGP said.
Sahai sought support from the general public for eradication of crime. Appreciating the role of cops and officers, the IGP said that JKP has demonstrated great valour and courage while maintaining law and order in the State. “It was due to tremendous efforts put in by JKP and other security agencies that the security situation in the State has evolved positively besides people’s yearning for peace and normalcy. JKP stood the test despite provocations by the anti-social and other elements inimical to peace,” he said.
He said that police has the primary role in maintaining peace and order in the society to ensure dignity and honour of common man. “Police serves as a bridge between public and the government, and we have to work with more consciousness and sincerity to keep the trust of the people,” he said.
Among others present on the occasion were DIG North Kashmir Muneer Khan, Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed Khan and Additional Superintendent of Police Shemsher Hussain.
