Makhdoom Kocha in troubled waters
WE THE Srinagarites
ON one hand the government has been talking tall about the conservation of heritage sites but on the other hand they are adding miseries to the lives of common people. Something of this sort has happened with us as well.
We are hailing from Makhdoom Kocha near Pather Masjid, Zaina Kadal, Srinagar. Some three years back in the name of beautification of Pather Masjid a government agency dug up a lane, which was an approach to our residential houses.
The in-charge engineers of the agency at that time constructed the lane giving it a slope in such a way that it results in waterlogging giving our Kocha a look of a pond.
The project executing agency has constructed several slopes in the lane but unfortunately without any drainage facility. During rains or, in this ongoing chilly winters, it has become very hard for us to venture out of our homes.
While driving down this waterlogged street the break shoes of our vehicles stop functioning resulting in break fail of vehicles which can prove fatal.
During the recent Chilay Kalan when temperature dipped below 0 degree Celsius, the slope constructed by the inefficient engineers reminded me of the world famed skiing slopes of Gulmarg.
But then the slope in our street isn’t any amusement but a cause of agony. Hope the government wakes up to the situation. At least our MLA, who also happens to be advisor to Chief Minister.
