New Delhi/Jammu, Feb 23: Defence Minister A K Antony expressed grief at the death of soldiers in avalanches that hit army camps in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sonamarg and Gurez sectors.
In a message to the family members of the victims, Antony said, “My thoughts are with the near and dear one of the deceased in this hour of tragedy, wishing speedy recovery for those injured in the incident.”
The Defence Minister said the government will provide all relief and rehabilitation measures to the affected families.
Jammu and Kashmir Governor, NN Vohra also expressed shock and grief over the tragic death of soldiers in the avalanche incidents.
In his message to Lt Gen K T Parnaik, Northern Army Commander, the Governor has expressed his sincere sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed souls. He has requested Lt Gen S A Hasnain, GOC 15 Corps to convey his sympathy to the families of the officers and men who lost their lives in these incidents.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condoled the death of soldiers in avalanches.
In a tweet Thursday, he first said: “Heartfelt condolences to the families of those soldiers who lost their loved ones in the avalanches.”
In another tweet, he announced he is “sending my minister with a personal message of condolence to the Corps Commander”.
