Nammath is no more 90
EXPANSION PLAN CHOCKED TO 40 FEET
GK CITY REPORTER
Srinagar, Feb 24: It’s official now that the prestigious 90 Feet road at Soura, popular as Nammath, awaiting expansion for the past several years has been reduced to 40 feet for the future prospects of the project. And this too will be taken up only when funds will be available, the timeframe for which, the government doesn’t know.
This is what one could infer from the statement of City MLA and Cabinet Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar at the Legislative Assembly in Jammu.
“The Minister said that acquisition proceedings in respect of remaining structures and land involved as per 40 feet width proposal instead of earlier 90 feet width proposal would be started only after funds are made available,” an official handout said.
Sagar added that the “North South corridor (NSC) road was redirected from Owanta Bhawan junction to KZP road viz Police Station Soura.”
Giving other details in reply to a question posed by Peer Afaaq Ahmed, Sagar said: “Widening of Akmal Bridge Bagh-i-Ali-Mardan Khan Owantabhawan via Lakhripora Tawheedabad road was initially taken up under circular road project and partly implemented.”
He said the proposals envisaged under circular road projects involved huge cost on account of acquisition of land and structures besides the rehabilitation component.
“In reply to another question by MLA Batamaloo, Muhammad Irfan Shah, the Minister said that steps for improvement of Bakshi Pora-Takan-Waripora road have been initiated and work already allotted could not be taken up during winter. However the work would be started now in view of improvement of weather conditions.”
