GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Feb 28: The State Human Rights Commission has expressed serious concern over running of school vans on LPG in the City and asked the Traffic Department to take concrete measures to stop the practice.
In his complaint to the Commission, Abdul Rehman Khan of Rajbagh citing a report of Greater Kashmir had stated that many school vans carrying kids are using cooking gas cylinders instead of petrol. “Gas cylinders in vans and vehicles is a time bomb and anytime there can be blast in the Maruti vans putting the lives of kids in danger,” the complaint had stated.
Acting on the complaint, the Commission’s member Rafiq Fida shot notices to the Traffic Department asking it to file response over the issue.
“The Traffic Department through Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Srinagar admitted that cognizance was taken on the intelligence input received from ADGP CID. They admitted that this is a grave concern and involves the life of innocent kids exposed to risk of LPG,” the members states in the order.
Traffic Department also submitted that 37 cases were identified and the offenders booked under relevant provisions of Motor Vehicle Act. “The Traffic Department has furnished their resolution to come down heavily against such violation in the ensuing season with zero tolerance. The canvas of human rights is so vast that it encompasses every aspect of the human activity,” the order states.
“The complainant has substantiated his complaint by mentioning the article(news report) published in daily Greater Kashmir. It will be in place to observe that media has to play very important role in democratic polity. It is greatest arm in her armoury for the protection and promotion of human rights,” the member observes.
