‘River transport to be revived soon’

Srinagar, Feb 3: The Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs,  on Friday said to minimize the pressure on traffic in Srinagar City, the “Inland water transport would be restored from Pantha Chowk to Chattabal area.”
 The Minister, as per an official handout, said this during his tour of the old City areas.
 He also said that a bridge would be constructed from Gadyar of Zaina Kadal to Saraf Kadal for convenience of people.
 “During his tour, the Minister was apprised that about Rs 42 crore have been fixed to restore the beauty, glory and heritage of Shar-e-Khas. Out of which, Rs. 37 crore would be incurred on compensation for residential houses which will be affected by road widening of Aali Kadal area. The work on this project would be started soon,” the handout said.
 The Minister was told that Rs 6.50 crore would be expended on construction of banks of river Jhelum at Zaina Kadal. Out of this, Rs. 1.5 crore have been spent by Flood Control department till date. The work to beautify banks of river Jhelum is apace.
