JK bags overall trophy in Dragon Boating

Jammu, Feb 3:  Jammu and Kashmir bagged overall championship trophy in the National Dragon Boating and Sea Kayaking Championship held at H2o Water Sports Centre, Mumbai recently.
The state team participated in the event under the banner of JK Kayaking and Canoeing Association. The team won two gold, four silver and two bronze medals in dragon boating and sea kayaking events.
While men’s team won two gold medals in 500 meter and 200 meter races, the women secured two silver medals in same events. The sea kayaking players won two silver and two bronze medals in five kilometer events, an Association handout issued here today claimed. Meanwhile, Umar Rafiq has been nominated as chief coach of the Indian team heading for Asian Dragon Boating Championship to be held in Thailand from February seven.
Women team bagged two silver medals In 500 meter and 200 meter race.  Sea kayaking players of J&K won two silver and two bronze medals in 5 kilometer event. After winning eight medals, J&K team clinched the overall Championship trophy. The National Championship was organised by Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association. Meanwhile, Ishfaq Ahmad of Srinagar was selected as a player in the Indian team.
