‘Various steps taken for promotion of sports’
CHIB FELICITATES TAEKWANDO PLAYERS
Jammu, Feb 4: Jammu Kashmir Taekwando Association today organized a felicitation for medal winners of international, national and Zonal championships here today.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib who was the chief guest on the occasion, said the government has initiated various step for promotion of sports in the state, adding that it was the result of this initiative that the interest of sports among youth was gaining momentum day by day.
Chib said Taekwondo is most systematic and scientific Korean martial art which teaches physical fighting skills. The game has become global sport and gained international reputation, he said adding that it also has got popularity among the youth of the country and state. He said that the state has vast potential in taekwondo sports so it has place in top taekwondo teams.
Earlier, giving resume of activities, Anil Gupta said that the state Taekwondo team won 2nd position in 3rd North Zone Taekwondo Championship held at Chandigarh, 55 medals in various categories including 3 gold, 16 silver and 39 bronze medals. Two players of state team attended the 5th commonwealth Taekwondo Championship held at Chennai and won 2 bronze medals in senior and junior category, he said and added that. Atul Pangotra a player of state team also participated in 6th World Taekwondo Poomsae championship in Russia and brought laurels to the state.
The Association also honoured the players of other sport sports who have brought laurels to the state at various levels.
The players presented demonstration on the occasion.
Among other, Secretary, JK State Sports Council Kiran Wattal, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports Madan Lal, Chairman, JK Taekwondo Association, Anil Gupta, besides sports lovers were present on the occasion.
