Participates In Asian Championship

ABID KHAN

Srinagar, Feb 5: The young energetic Adil Mohiuddin Wani has emerged out as new star of water sports in JK after sterling performance during last three years at national and international arena.
Overtaking the well known water sports player of the Valley, Zahoor Latoo, Adil won number of medals at national level and was also selected for two international events. Unlike Zahoor, Adil is canoeing player and has tasted most of his success in individual events and that sums up his talent.
After representing India in Asian champioship last year and being selected for the World championship Adil recently won two gold medals at Central Zone Canoeing Sprint Championship. He won in C-1, 1000 meters and C-2, 500 meters.
Only 15 days before that representing India Police team in 22nd senior national kayaking and canoeing championship held at Bangalore, Karnataka he bagged two silver medals. He won medals in C-1 500 and 200 metres. He was the only medal winner for the India Police team in the event.
Before making the State proud in two recently held national events, Adil made his presence felt at international level for India as well.
He represented India in the 14th Asian Kayaking Canoeing championship held in Iran. He impressed in his debut International event bagging fourth and fifth positions in team and individual events respectively.
Seeing his potential and consistent performance at Nation al level Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Federation selected him for the world event. However, due to non-availability of passport he couldn’t participate in the event that was held in Hungary.
After breaking into the JK Water Sports arena in 2008 through Police department water sports team Adil has won 27 national level medals for his department and the state.
“I have been working hard on my game and with Police department there is never a chance for complacency. We practice every day and at times in double shifts, during morning and evening and whatever the weather conditions remain,” Adil said.
“It is because of my hard work and the support of the team-mates and coach that I have performed well,” he addded.
