HC quashes 3 PSA detentions

Srinagar, Feb 7:  The High Court on Tuesday quashed detention orders of three persons detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) and directed the government to release them immediately if they are not involved in other offences.
 Two benches of the High Court after hearing the arguments of the counsels for the petitioners, Muhammad Ashraf Wani, Nazir Ahmad Ronga, Majid Bashir and M A Thakur, who represented the state in the cases quashed the detentions.
 Counsel for the petitioners’ pleaded before the court that the detention orders were not in consonance with the provisions of law and being illegal required to be quashed.
 The persons whose detentions were quashed by the court are: Ishfaq Ahmad Kawoosa, HCP no 341 of 2011, Sameer Ahmad, HCP no 335 of 2011, Muhammad Rafiqul Sheikh HCP no. 365 of 2011.
