TAJ TOO IN TROUBLE
Court Directs SVO To Verify Allegations Against Minister
Jammu, Feb 8: In a complaint filed by one Jan Muhammad Reshi of Jammu seeking directions to register an FIR in alleged scams in PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments during the tenure of Taj Mohi-ud-Din as minister, Special Judge Anti-corruption Jammu Pawan Dev Kotwal today asked SSP State Vigilance Organization, Jammu, for verification of the allegations and further necessary action under law.
In the complaint, it has been said that the Public Accounts Committee of J&K Legislative Assembly recently met under the chairmanship of Professor Chaman Lal Gupta and the meeting was attended by the other members namely Muhammad Sharief Naiz, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Mansoor Hussain, Jagdish Raj Sapolia, Khalid Najib Sohrawardy and Naresh Kumar Gupta.
In the said meeting the PAC “expressed its anguish and displeasure over rampant corruption and open loot of State exchequer in the PHE Department. The members in one voice raised the issue of purchase sub-standard pipes by the PHE Dept during tenure of Taj Mohi-ud-Din and demanded a thorough probe through CBI. The entire process of purchase involves crores of rupees and substandard pipes have been purchased causing heavy loss to the State exchequer and entire record pertaining to the said purchase is required to be scrutinized.”
In the complaint it has been further submitted that in PHE Division Rajouri crores of rupees were swindled by giving contracts without tenders.
It is further submitted in the complaint that Mehboob Iqbal IAS, retired Commissioner/Secretary PHE and Irrigation, a close kin of Taj Mohi-ud-Din, while demitting his office on superannuation diverted Rs 18 crores of centrally sponsored Drinking Water Scheme to his home district of Doda and particularly Bhaderwah Assembly Segment. “The said diversion of funds was in violation of the guidelines of National Rural Drinking Water Program (NRDWP). The said diversion of funds had the tacit approval of Taj who did not initiate any action in the matter when it was reported in the press.”
In the complaint it has been further submitted that role of minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din and former Commissioner/Secretary needs to be looked into as both of them “abused their official position.” JNF
