B’pora villages reel under severe water crisis

Bandipora, Jan 12: Many villages in this north Kashmir district arte facing acute water shortage causing lot of inconvenience to people especially the womenfolk.
ResidentsofAsham,Maarkundal,Saderkoot,Baharabad,Hajin,Madvan,Kralpora,Pazalpora, Mantrigam, Nathpora, Watapora, Putushay and many villages in Sumbal township on Thursday told Greater Kashmir that womenfolk are forced to fetch contaminated water from streams as taps are running dry. “We approached the PHE office Bandipora on many occasions with the plea to restore the water supply but it seems our pleas fell on deaf ears.”
“If we keep on consuming contaminated water it can lead to the outbreak of water borne diseases. If authorities fail to restore the water supply we will be left with no other option other than to launch an agitation,” they said.
Situation in Asham and Sonarwani blocks is worse.
Residents of Khenusa,Malangam,Quila and Putushay are up in arms against the authorities. “We are drinking contaminated water from nearby nallahs and streams. There is every possibility of epidemic breaking out in our areas,” they said.
