People facing hardships: Usman
Bandipora, Jan 16: Senior Congress leader and former MLA Bandipora, Usman Majeed, on Monday said fresh snowfall had added to the woes of people putting up in the upper reaches of this north Kashmir district.
“People have been left to fend for themselves in absence of essential commodities, including LPG, kerosene and other items. Electricity has disappeared in the upper reaches and people are finding it hard to survive” Usman said in a statement.
He expressed dismay over elected representatives not being present in the Valley at this crucial hour. “Lackadaisical approach of legislators has disappointed people,” he added.
Usman said the government is putting in efforts to ensure that people don’t suffer, but he was quick to add that lot more needs to be done.
He thanked the Power Development Department for providing people with the electricity. “Towns are receiving the power but many villages in upper reaches have been plunged into darkness due to faults. I hope PDD will take a note of it and will get these faults rectified,” he added.
