Militant killed in Poonch encounter

Poonch, Jan 19: One militant was today killed when a gun-battle broke out between militants and security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Acting on a tip off, soldiers of 39 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group of police launched a cordon and search operation in Chak Banola (Chatral) forest belt in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district early this morning, Jammu Defence PRO S N Acharya said.
The militants opened fire on the security forces who also retaliated which resulted in a fierce gun-battle between the two sides.
One militant was killed and two others are trapped inside the forest area, Acharya said. One UBGL, an AK rifle along with four magazines were also recovered, he said.
