Legal Metrology fines offenders
GK CITY REPORTER
Srinagar, Jan 23: Since the day “fuel-starved” government reduced gas in LPG cylinders to mere five KG, the profiteers in the trade could be minting around 30 % more on the sales. This is what one could infer from the market inspection conducted Monday in the City.
“On the tip off, the field executives of Legal Metrology department under the supervision of Dy Controllers raided the premises of a point delivery LPG retailer and found the dealer supplying consumers 5 Kg refills of HP/BP gas at Rs 200 as against the fixed rate of Rs 154,” said an official handout adding that the accused was fined.
“The local Inspector, Legal Metrology booked the erring trader on spot under section 33 of Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act,1997. The Dy Controller imposed a penalty of Rs 6000 against defaulter for over-charging,” the handout said adding the team inspected several markets of Srinagar including those in the old City.
