One-way traffic on highway
2500 Vehicles Move From Jammu
UMER MAQBOOL
Srinagar, Jan 23: As the weather showed further improvement with the appearance of sun Monday, more than 2500 vehicles proceeded towards the Valley from winter capital Jammu.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Inspector General of Traffic Hemant Kumar Lohia said more than 2500 vehicles including trucks, passenger buses and Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) moved towards Srinagar today.
Lohia added more than 500 vehicles also plied towards Doda due to pleasant weather.
“There will be traffic movement from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow again and we are hopeful to clear all the stranded vehicles by tomorrow evening,” he said.
He, however, added that there will be time restrictions for the movement of passenger vehicles. “All the buses and LMVs should cross Nagrota by 1100 hours and Udhampur by 1230 hours,” the IG said.
The highway, the only surface link to Kashmir valley, was closed on January 13 due to landslides but reopened for one way-traffic on January 14 for a brief period. It was again closed due to heavy snowfall, avalanches and landslides on January 15 and reopened for one-way traffic briefly on January 18. This January, it has remained closed for almost 11 days.
During this month, the highway remained closed for 11 days on account of snowfall and landslides.
