VCC THREATENS TO KILL STRAY DOGS
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Jan 23: The Valley Citizens Council, an NGO has threatened to “kill stray dogs to save human lives” should the administration “fail to eliminate the stray packs within fortnight”.
In a meeting in the City Monday, the VCC “urged upon the administration to either kill dogs within fortnight or our members and volunteers will kill them, as we do not want killing of innocent people particularly children by canines.”
“Our streets, our roads are full of dogs…people suffer and dogs are being protected and their protectors are living in protected bungalows,” a VCC handout said.
“We have been asking administration to take steps just to
protect people from dogs but in vain. The population of dogs is increasing at an alarming rate and our administration is thinking about their sterlizalation. Our question is how long it will take and till then who is responsible for the deadly bites?” asked Zarief Ahmad Zarief, Chairman VCC.
The council General Secretary Imdad Saki said: “We have been asking the administration to take steps in this regard by either killing them or sending them to those NGOs who are patrons/champions of dog rights.”
“We have no objection if these so called dog lovers establish farmhouses for rehabilitation of dogs. But they have no right to stop us in killing dogs as our kiths and kins are getting killed,” Saki added.
The meeting among others, the VCC said, was attended by Chairman Houseboat Owners Association Muhammad Azim Tuman who said the civil society should jointly fight against the dogs.
Referring to the recent dog attack on a 10-year-old boy, who got 100 odd bites, Tuman said: “We pray for the boy and Inshallah God will save him.”
The meeting among others was attended by Nazir Ahmad Nazir, Mushtaq Ahmad Canney and Nazir Ahmad Kabli.
