AFTER DAL, JHELUM GETS WATER MASTER

Srinagar, Jan 25: In a bid to accelerate beautification of Jhelum in the City, the Irrigation and Flood Control Department Wednesday put in to service recently procured Water Master, a sophisticated dredging machine, already being used for Dal lake conservation.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-Din inaugurated the machine.
“Costing Rs 6 crore, Water Master does the de-siliting and other excavation job, while floating on the surface like an amphibian machine. The department hopes to also use it for clearing the interior City channels like, Sunar Khul, Kuta Khul etc which earned the summer capital the title of a Venice of the east,” an official handout said.
“With the machine completing the clearance work, Jhelum would be made fit for the water transport from Zerobridge to Chatabal in the first phase,” the handout said.
