Family awaits compensation

Srinagar, Jan 25: A month after High Court awarded compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family of late Muhammad Sadiq Kasana of Arhama Ganderbal, killed allegedly by the forces in custody in 2000; his family on Wednesday alleged they did not received the amount yet. 
The Court had also asked the government to consider the case of compassionate appointment to the widow of the deceased under SRO 43, but the family denied that any action was taken in the case.
Earlier, the report of Investigating Officer, wherein state has admitted that probe was conducted and it was established that two police officers, Jagtar Singh and Hakim Din were involved in Kasana’s death.
The High Court in November had, in a decision, awarded Rs 3 lakh to the family of the deceased. “In the given circumstances, I deem it proper to award Rs 3 lakh as compensation and saddle the state government with the liability,” Court of Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir had observed.
