MANZOOR-UL-HASSAN

Srinagar, Jan 25: The Government Gousia Hospital on Wednesday claimed to have performed a rare laparoscopic surgery in which a gall bladder and a “complex ovarian cyst of the size of a handball were removed” by making two pairs of tiny incisions.
A 24-year-old girl from Gurez recently attended the surgical OPD for abdominal pain.  “She was diagnosed suffering from the diseased gall bladder with multiple gall stones and an unusual ovarian dermoid cyst about 10cmX10cm in size,” head of the team, Dr Rafiq Simnani told Greater Kashmir.
Dr Simnani said patient was operated upon jointly by gynecological unit  and others.
She was operated under general anesthesia by Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Simnani with Dr Sabeena and anesthetist Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan.
“The surgery was done laparoscopically through four tiny holes and the diseased gall bladder with gall stones and the dermoid tumor filled with tufts of hair and, tooth and bone like elements were removed successfully through the same holes,” the doctors said.
The medicos said the patient was recovering fast and would be discharged by tomorrow. Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr Shaheen hailed the team of doctors for the feat.
