Bandipora, Jan 25: Demanding through probe in ongoing execution the developmental works
Ex-Minster and senior Congress leader Usman Majeed on Thursday alleged that some of the works being executed by Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) Division Bandipora have been allotted without adhering to any tendering process.
Majeed in a statement alleged that PHE Department is executing workers without inviting tenders in nexus with some political activists thus looting government exchequer.
Majeed, said most of the registered contractors had been sitting idle and some political activists who lacked experience got the contract. “Instead of allotting works to technically expert persons, contracts have been allotted to people having political links,” he said, and informed that during the past one year, the majority of works had been started without floating tenders.
He strongly condemned the action of PHE department by allegedly providing safe haven to political activists and politically backed contractors who are allegedly misappropriating the government funds.
Usman alleged that large scale “loot” was committed by the said Executive Engineer PHE in connivance with some political activists by “selling” works to various people especially political workers without adhering to tendering process.
Quoting victimized contactors, Usman said, “They (contractors) had already submitted the complaint to higher ups about the open loot but the concerned agency has not taken any cognizance thus providing ample time to political activists and influential contractors, thus overlooking the huge losses to state exchequer.”
Usman Majeed said that he has made a separate request to Chief Minister and Chief Secretary to make an urgent intervention so that all concerned brought to book.
“To avoid the further loot of government exchequer and mismanagement, a strict action should be initiated against the present Exen PHE and other officials dealing the tendering of developmental works,” Majeed said.
This he has termed as “big blot” on the slogans of transparency raised by the government.
