Night temperature improves
Srinagar, Jan 26: Several areas of Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall on Thursday as the residents got respite from severe cold wave with minimum temperature increasing by several degrees.
Moderate snowfall was recorded in south Kashmir, including the tourist resort of Pahalgam while light snowfall was recorded in Srinagar city.
Pahalgam received 9 cm snowfall, while Kokernag recorded 10 cm, a Met official said. Qazigund town, which acts as a gateway to the Kashmir Valley, received 4 cm snowfall, he said.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Director Meteorology Sonam Lotus said, “Weather will improve from now onwards.”
The minimum temperature at Pahalgam tourist resort rose by 1.2 degrees Celsius from yesterday to settle at minus 6.2 deg Celsius. Qazigund recorded a sharp increase of 5.6 deg C from last night and settled at minimum of minus 1.8 deg C. The minimum temperature in Srinagar rose by 1.8 points from yesterday to settle at a low of minus 0.8 deg C.
Leh town in remote Ladakh region recorded minimum of minus 13.2 deg C, which was an increase of 5.8 deg C from yesterday. The adjoining Kargil town, also in Ladakh region, recorded a low of minus 20 deg C, the only place to witness a decrease in the minimum temperature, as mercury there fell by two degrees compared to last night.
