SMC to get staffers from Jammu

M HYDERI

Srinagar, Jan 27: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will get all new staffers from Jammu province alone, at least for the recently advertised post of Junior Assistants. And, this is despite the fact that the posts are meant for the Srinagarites alone.
Well, this is what one could infer from the notification about the short-listed candidates for the recently created vacancies in the civic body.

THE SHORT-LIST
A notification Vide No DIPK-NB- 2362 by Joint Commissioner SMC, Fayaz Ahmed Bala published in the local dailies on January 26, revealed names of the five short-listed candidates, all of whom belong to the winter Capital.
The list states: Sushil Thapa son of Chuni Lal of Darsopur Miran Sahib Teh RS Pora Jammu, Dhirender Mohan son of  Mohan Lai Radha Gigrial Teh Akhnoor Jammu, Vinod Singh Radha son of  Biru Ram Gigrial Teh Akhnoor Jammu figuring at position one, two and three, respectively in the short-listed candidates.
The other two include: Rivender Kumar son of Mohan Lal of Panthan Teh Thanthai Doda and Vijay Kumar son of Sodagar Mal of Kothli Mandi Samba.
Their type-test and interview is scheduled to be held on January 28 at 11 AM at Informatics Centre, Municipal Central Office, Balgarden, Karan Nagar.

THE VACANCIES
As many as ten vacancies were advertised by the SMC last month under Reserve Category vide advertisement Notification No: SMC/Gen.Estb/8773-78 dated 26.12.011.
But the irony, as per officials, remained that none of the aspirants from Srinagar qualified for the Reserved Category criteria.
“The Reserved Category has options like Reserved Backward Area, Line of Actual Control and SC/ST… But as its virtually impossible  for a City dweller to be hailing from backward area or LOC, the only option left was about the SC/ST but there too none of the candidate was from Srinagar,” said a senior SMC official requesting not to be named.
He said the only applications which poured in were  of SC/ST and from Jammu province.
“SC/ST candidates are eligible for posts irrespective of their district or region and this what the aspirants from the winter capital have cashed,” the official added.

THE QUICK ABSORPTION
At a time when other agencies like Services Selection Recruitment Board, take years to complete the formalities for interviews, this development has come quick within around a month. And the selected candidates are expected to be appointed within fortnight of their screening.

OFFICIALS SPEAK
When contacted Joint Commissioner, SMC, Fayaz Bala said of the five applications received, only two candidates are scheduled to be selected for the Junior Assistant posts.
“Two of the ten posts were meant for the SC/ST Category for which the five applications poured in,” Bala confirmed adding that no applications came up for the other eight vacancies.
Asked about the fate of the other vacancies, he said, the civic body would have to adopt proper procedure.
“We’ll have to repeat the advertisement thrice and if till then no new applicants turn up, the posts will be thrown open for open merit category, he said.
