Bio-medical waste units to come up in Srinagar, Jammu

Jammu, Jan 30: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma today convened a high-level meeting of officers to review the Action Plan of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for the year 20120-13.
 Commissioner/Secretary Health & Medical Education G. A. Peer, Mission Director, NRHM Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Director Health Services, Kashmir/Jammu, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Dr. Madhu Khullar, Director Family Welfare Dr. T.K.Moza and other officers of the NRHM and allied wings of the Health Ministry were present in the meeting.
 The Minister took a detailed review and status report of several projects undertaken under NRHM and State Programme Implementation Plan of NRHM for the next year to be submitted to the Central Government. He emphasized the need for prioritizing the projects which are to be taken up during the current financial year for upgradation of healthcare infrastructure in the State.
 He also reviewed the status of Medical Mobile Units, procurement of Critical Care Ambulances, CT Scan units, setting up of Bio-medical waste units at Jammu and Srinagar.
 He stressed on expediting the process so that the same could be procured at the earliest to avoid cost escalation. He called for timely completion of various on-going projects and making judicious use of unspent funds.
 He also directed for submitting Utilization Certificates to the Central Government in time to secure balance funds for various on-going projects.
 The Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to achieve better results. He directed both the Directors Health to personally monitor the progress of the projects and maintain close liaison with the executing agencies and Mission Director to remove little hurdles.
 He also directed both the Directors to make nomination of doctors, para-medical staff for undergoing various training courses in a systematic and regular manner to achieve the objective of the provisions.
 Mission Director, NRHM informed the meeting that a tentative Action Plan under NRHM for upgradation of health infrastructure and to complete several on-going projects in the State has been finalized to the tune of Rs. 496.75 crore for the year 2012-13. It includes multifaceted activities related to upgradation of healthcare infrastructure. The priorities have been fixed according to the demands projected by the various stakeholders in all the districts.
