VC chairs Sheikh Ul Aalam Chair meeting
Srinagar, Jan 8: The Vice-Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad has said Sheikh-Ul-Aalam Chair was his priority area adding that he would personally oversee the noble cause of research on the teachings of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) even as he called for use of the saint’s teachings for welfare of the society.
Prof Talat was presiding over a high level meeting to discuss the roadmap for the academic and infrastructure expansion of the chair.
“The VC said that financial impediments shall not be allowed to be a bottleneck in the impressive functioning of the chair,” the PRO KU said in a handout.
The VC, the handout said, directed the concerned authorities to prepare a layout for the additional accommodation for the chair and fencing around present complex.
“VC agreed to the proposal of renaming KU convocation complex after Sheikh-Ul-Aalam and asked the director to present a written proposal in this regard,” the PRO added.
“Prof Talat gave standing instructions for 10 fellowships and engagement of 5-6 Research Associates in the chair to carry research in a meaningful manner in the chair.”
Earlier, Chairman Markazi Noor, Dr Bashar Bashir in his welcome address put forth some of the demands including establishment of the international cultural centre at KU and introduction of the PG courses in the Sheikh-ul-Alam Chair.
He also gave a detailed account of the strategies adopted by the Markaz-e-Noor for research and propagation of teachings of Sheikh-ul-Alam(RA).
The meeting was attended by the senior functionaries and academicians of the university who included Registrar, Kashmir University, Prof S Fayaz Ahmad , Dean Academic Affairs Prof A M Shah, Dean social sciences Prof Muhammad Ashraf Wani, Chairman of the Markazi Noor, Dr Bashar Bashir, Dean Research Prof Khursheed A Andrabi, Director Convocation complex M S Sumbli, Assistant Prof SA Chair and President Adbi Markaz Kamraaz, Dr Aziz Hajni.
Members of the sub advisory committee including Dr Manzoor Ahmad, and Showkat Shafi were also present on the occasion.
