Srinagar, June 30: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the cause of fire in Dastgeer Sahab (RA) shrine Saturday recorded the statements of Naib (Deputy) Imam of the shrine and is all set to record the statement of Sajada Nisheen soon.
The SIT is headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Khanyar, Dy SP Sajad Ahmad Shah.
Divulging details, a police official associated with SIT said that the Naib Imam Siraj-ud-Din Ahmad was questioned Saturday afternoon.
During the questioning, the Imam according to the police official has divulged that he was told by somebody that there was some burst inside the shrine. “When I reached there I saw that a piece of Khatamband had fallen on ground and the upper portion near the dome had caught fire,” the Naib Imam said. “Suddenly the fire spread,” he told the SIT.
The official added that besides the Naib Imam, the statements of some other people concerned with the shrine management were also recorded. “We also recorded the statements of two three more people,” the official said.
The SIT official said that they are all set to record the statement of Sajad Nisheen of the shrine. “He is the one responsible for handling the shrine affairs,” the official said.
The official said that they are also looking into the activities which took place in and outside the shrine for the few days, before it was gutted.
SIT is looking into all the angles which, notably, include the possibility of it being an act of arson. Police have registered an FIR number 37/2012 under 436 RPC (arson) in police station Khanyar to look into all aspects of the tragedy that sent shock waves across Kashmir.
