Hizb commander killed in Kangan encounter

Kangan, July 10: A senior Hizbul Mujahideen commander was killed in an encounter with forces at Chandej Hayan in Kangan forests of North Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday.
According to police, 24 RR and police laid siege around Chandej village on a tip off and started searches. As the searches were on, a militant present in the house of Muhammad Yousuf Khatana fired on the search party triggering an encounter in which the militant was killed. Police identified the killed militant as Ghulam Nabi War alias Jhangi of Hayan Palpora Kangan.
A police officer told Greater Kashmir that Ghulam Nabi was active in the area for past more than 10 years and was operating as Divisional Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen.
“The encounter has ended while searches are on,” he said.
Hundreds of people participated in the funeral procession of the militant at Hayan Palpora Kangan.
