‘JK to get possession of Chandigarh property soon’
AKSHAY AZAD
Jammu, July 13: The prolonged wait of Jammu and Kashmir to get the possession of its immovable properties in other states is likely to end soon as Union government has assured the state government to handover its property in Chandigarh by next year.
Sources informed Greater Kashmir that the assurance was given by Union Home minister P Chidambaram in the meeting of Northern Zone Consultative Committee (NZCC) held at Mount View Chandigarh, to a delegation of J&K headed by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.
Jammu and Kashmir, they said, had already pursued the case with Union government and submitted a detailed report about its property in other states to Union government.
“Union Home Minister P Chidambaram assured us that the property of J&K in Chandigarh, including 4 storey commercial building and a basement which is presently on lease with the Labour Bureau of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, will be handed over to state by next year,” Minister of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj-Mohi-ud-din, who was also part of J&K’s delegation, said.
He said that the Labour department was asked to shift its office from the present building which was J&K’s property, to some other building and hand it over to the state.
The Home Ministry, he said, will take up the issue regarding property of state in Delhi, presently in possession of Military Engineering Services (MES), with Ministry of Defense.
Pertinently, the assets and land owned by J&K in unauthorized occupation in various states include, land measuring 1,251 kanals and four marlas in Sirsa Haryana, 32 kanals and 9 marlas at Daim Gunj Amritsar, and four storey commercial building and a basement in Chandigarh.
As per official record, land in Sirsa has been secretly transferred in the name of a Cooperative Society by an Assistant Commissioner, while the land at Daim Gunj is under unauthorized occupation of families of original leases for many years, and the property at Chandigarh is on lease with the Labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour and Employment Government of India on a monthly rent of Rs 1.06 lakhs.
