Bemina boy bitten outside residence

Locals protest,Tengpora development awaited

Srinagar, July 13: A 10 year old boy was bitten by dogs outside his Bemina residence Friday afternoon, witnesses said.
They said Abid Ahmed Gurkoo son of Muhammad Aamir Gurkoo of Usmania Colony was bitten multiple times on his arms and abdomen till some people came to his rescue.
Abid, a class 10th student of Oxford Public School Bemina, was rushed to SMHS Hospital where doctors diagnosed him of a being Category III Bite case, considered deadliest of the attacks.
The residents accused the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) of “failing to act against the deadly menace” adding that scores of dogs are on prowl in the area.
The SMC has sterilized 300 dogs at Shuhama dog pound whereas there has been no breakthrough for starting parallel sterilization at Tengpora pound.
This is despite the government assurance to prominent animal rights activist and noted parliamentarian Maneka Gandhi during her recent visit that the site would be made functional for ABC-AR program. Around a fortnight on, the Tengpora sterilization is yet to take off.
