Power woes
This refers to the article "Power woes in J&K” by Er. Abdur Rashid (GK 5 July). It was a thought provoking-article wherein the author has rightly highlighted our ignorance while consuming electricity. We completely forget our duties and responsibilities. Our illegal and extravagant consumption of electricity is one of the main cause of growing power woes in our state. The ignorant masses very often keep electric appliances like 100 W bulbs, fans heaters on when they are not needed. Many consumers don't bother to switch off lights in broad daylight and even in vacant rooms. This causes great electricity loss. It is very unfortunate that good number of consumers sacrifice their honesty for mere few hundred which they are supposed to pay as monthly electricity tariff and resort to power theft which is unethical and illegal. There is no denying the fact that some employees of the PDD are also involved in this crime.T he government must take strict action against the defaulters and employees who are in nexus with consumers.
