Shocking accident
This refers to the shocking accident of a bus carrying students of a private school of Kupwara near Tangmarg. Notwithstanding the safety of blooming buds, the school management sends off the students in sub-standard buses for picnics. In the name of providing ‘quality education’, private educational institutions often violate government directions; be it with regard to vacations, holidays, conduct of exams, or prior permission for a tour. Private schools receive fat sums from the parents in the form of fee. In return they are expected to ensure security and safety of their wards both within and outside the school. A number of private school buildings (whether rented or owned) are sub-standard which speaks of the carelessness of the school managements and the concerned authorities. The government should take effective steps in order to avert the probability of a disaster during natural calamities like earthquakes etc. Similarly, the standard and quality of buses being used by the private and government schools and colleges for ferrying students or for picnic purposes should be clearly mentioned and made public through a directive.
