3 persons detained for questioning: Police

Beeru (Budgam), July 16: Police have detained three persons “for questioning” in connection with the gutting of the shrine of Baba Haneefudin (RA) at Rathsun Beeru on Sunday.
The Station House Officer, Police Station Beeru, Muhammad Akbar, said three persons, all residents of Draggar Wanihama (a village located on the foothills of the Baba Haneefudin’s shrine), have been detained for questioning.
“No formal FIR has been registered against them but police has detained them for questioning,” he told Greater Kashmir.
The SHO refuted the news reports that holy relics were damaged in the fire incident. “No relic was present in the shrine, so the question of their damage does not arise,” he said.
The 300-year-old Sufi Shrine was gutted in a fire incident at Rathsun village in Beeru Tehsil of Budgam district on the intervening night of 14th and 15th July.
According to observers, the Sufi Shrine of Baba Haneef ud Din (RA), locally called as Baba Saben Dahresh, caught fire under mysterious circumstances, destroying the shrine completely.
Baba Haneefudin (RA) was a disciple of Zainul Abadeen Wali (RA) of Aishmuqam Islamabad, said Khurshid Ahmad Mir of Sunoor Kalipora Beeru.
Complete shutdown was observed in Beeru town yesterday against the gutting of the shrine. On Monday, however, the situation returned to normal and traffic plied on the roads while shops and educational establishments remained open.
