Dr Kamaal’s ire: Hurriyat (G) hits back
Blames NC for killings during 2010 unrest in Kashmir
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 16: Hurriyat Conference (G) Monday said the Additional General Secretary of National Conference Dr Mustafa Kamal’s accusations against its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani “amounted to self-disgrace.’
“Geelani has neither any bank balance nor he owns a personal house. The house he resides in at Hyderpora is the head office of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. To become an MLA was not his personal desire or decision. He was sent to the assembly on a mission and he performed it in a nice way. We forcefully reject Dr Kamal’s claim that he (Geelani) is taking any pension from assembly,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat (G) in a statement today.
The spokesman said that “It is an open secret that Geelani belonged to a poor family. He has, without any hesitation, mentioned it in his autobiography.”
The spokesman blamed the NC led government for killings in Kashmir during 2010 unrest.
Meanwhile, the spokesman described Geelani as an “icon of ongoing freedom movement.” “Now it has become an uncontroversial fact that Geelani is a symbol of Kashmir’s ongoing freedom movement. All the statements issued by Geelani regarding the Kashmir issue are not in any way the result of his personal grudge or enmity with anyone. The real intention behind them is to make the coming generations aware about the historical background of this issue to which Geelani has himself been an eyewitness,” the spokesman said.
“And it is his moral and national responsibility to issue such statements. He is not used to launch scathing attacks even on his bitter opponents. He even mentions their names in an honourable and dignified way. He speaks the truth because it is the truth. No matter whom it hurts. He is not afraid of being censored for speaking the truth,” said the spokesman.
