Rs 73 cr tourism projects sanctioned to JK

Srinagar, July 16: The Centre has sanctioned 14 tourism mega projects of Rs 73.50 crore for J&K during last 3 months.
The projects are meant for creation of tourist related infrastructure, development of potential spots and conservation of heritage sites in the State.
Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora said this today here, while reviewing the progress of different tourism related projects being executed under Central Financial Assistance (CFA) in the State.
The Minister, according to an official statement, said that 9 tourism projects of Rs. 38.35 crore which include conservation of heritage corridor of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, construction of TRC at Yousmarg, budgeted accommodation at Aharbal, construction of Kashmir Haat at Chinar Bagh Srinagar, development of picnic spot at Pahalgam, Sarbal lake at Verinag, are being carried out in Kashmir Valley.
Jora said that four tourism projects have been sanctioned for Jammu division. “Another mega heritage conservation project of Rs 16.92 crore has been sanctioned for conservation of Mubarak Mandi heritage palace,” he said.
The minister said Rs 13.78 crore would be incurred on development of tourist infrastructure at Mansar, Sanasar and Natha top, besides development of Darhal as base camp and Shikar marg as gate way of tourist destination of Pir Panjal.
He said the centre has also sanctioned a project of Rs. 4.45 crore for development of tourist infrastructure in Kargil.
The Minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure timely completion of formalities for taking up of these projects well in time.
The Meeting reviewed in detail pace of progress of each CFA project.
It was informed that during last 10 years the centre has sanctioned 147 tourism projects of Rs 428 crore to the State against which it has released Rs 263 crore so far. Over Rs 221 crore has been expended on execution of these projects up to May 2012 in the State.
The Meeting was informed that out of 147 tourism projects, the work on about 60 has been completed while as work on remaining projects is almost near completion.
The meeting also reviewed pace of progress of 29 tourist development villages being executed in the State under Central Finance Assistance of Rs 18.46 crore, against which the centre has released Rs 15.13 crore and of which Rs 14.14 crore has been incurred on hardware and software components in these villages.
