Dooru roads dilapidated
People suffer, authorities in slumber
Dooru: Belying tall claims of the Government of providing better road connectivity, majority of roads across this south Kashmir area are in dilapidated condition.
The inhabitants said one of the important roads, Dooru-Qazigund via Mehmoodabad road is dotted with potholes.
“This road connects dozens of villages of Dooru with the Srinagar-Jammu Highway at Qazigund. Due to pathetic condition of the road, students and employees face immense hardships to reach their respective destinations. The problem gets compounded when we have to ferry patients and expecting mothers to Qazigund and Islamabad hospitals,” said Muhammad Amin, a resident.
The Dooru-Batagund road is also in shambles. “The condition of this road is so bad that even a small downpour inundates it making it impossible for vehicles to ply through it. During dry seasons, dust emanating from this these roads has become source of respiratory diseases in the area,” the locals said.
The condition of Dooru-Lisser road connecting Dooru with Kokernag is no different. “We don’t even remember now when the road was last macadamized. Though the route connects the two important tourist places Verinag and Kokernag with each other but the authorities have totally ignored it,” they said.
The passenger vehicles have suffered damages due to bad condition of the roads.
“Our vehicles have incurred heavy damages due to dilapidated condition of the roads in Dooru,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a Sumo driver
He said majority of the drivers avoid plying vehicles on these roads as a result of which passengers have to bear the brunt. “We have time and again apprised the authorities about the condition of roads in Dooru but our requests met with deaf ears,” he added.
