4 PHCs in Boniyar block without doctor
AILING HEALTHCARE
Patients suffer, authorities unmoved
Baramulla: Signifying messy state of affairs in healthcare system here, four Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Block Boniyar of Uri Constituency are functioning without a doctor.
Despite having of a population of nearly 60,000, the Constituency has been left on the mercy of few pharmacists and Multi-Purpose Health Workers.
Sources said there are 10 sanctioned posts of doctors at Trikanjan, Warikhah, Noorkhah, Bijhama and Boniyar PHCs. However they said these posts have not been filled up from past several years. Ironically, the post of Block Medical Officer is lying vacant for past four years.
In absence of doctors, PHCs particularly in Trikanjan, Noorkhah, Warikhah are being managed by pharmacists, dental surgeon and Multi-Purpose Health Workers.
In blatant violation of norms, the Boniyar block is without a Gynecologist. “Normal deliveries are being conducted by the Multi Purpose Health Workers and junior nurses posing a serious risk to the health of both mother and child,” sources said.
“Healthcare system in the block is defunct. Even for minor ailments patients have to be shifted to either district hospital or Srinagar. Majority population of Boniyar block is living in abject poverty. Absence of doctors makes our life more miserable,” said Wali Muhammad of Trikanjan.
