Deliberations start on decongestion of Old Town Baramulla
Baramulla: In a bit to kick-start a pilot project ‘De-congestion of Old Town Baramulla’, the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla along with officials visited the Old Town today and held deliberations with business community and senior citizens of the area.
On the occasion, the DC assured them that all the affected people including shopkeepers will be rehabilitated at a proper place.
The pilot project initiated by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is aimed to de-congest the Old Town by constructing multi-lane roads in its interior areas.
Officials said around 122 shopkeepers will be affected by the project and the district administration is planning to rehabilitate them by constructing shopping malls at the identified places in the town.
The locals have decried inordinate delay in execution of the project. “Despite release of funds for the project, the authorities have failed to start work on it,” said Nissar Ahmad of Old Town Baramulla.
