38 Employees Resign Against Reemployment Of Officers
MUKEET AKMALI
Srinagar, July 20: Thirty eight non-teaching employees of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) submitted their resignation to the Director on Friday as a mark of protest against the “illegal appointment of registrar, deputy registrar (accounts) and deputy registrar (Administration).”
“Since the institute authorities are hell bent in making illegal appointments and giving extensions to some blue eyed persons, the employees had no other option but to submit their resignation to the director as a mark of protest against such moves,” Syed Mumtaz Hussain, spokesperson of the Non-Teaching Employees Association at NIT, said.
“We have submitted our resignations in protest against the appointment of a retired person as in-charge registrar/ Dy Registrar (accounts) and another person as Deputy Registrar (Administration). They were re-employed twice in the past few years. The appointment of these persons has been made in violation of central civil services rules and NIT statutes,” the employees said.
The employees said if the management doesn’t take action on the issue, other employees will also submit their resignation soon. “The NTEA will also go for a pen /tool down strike from 21 July,” Hussain said.
The NTEA members said they many times discussed the issue of “illegal appointments” with Governor and also with Director NIT. “We were assured action but nothing happened,” they said.
In April this year, the Director constituted a committee of four senior faculty members headed by Prof M A Lone, HOD Civil Engineering Department to find ‘root cause’ of the protests observed by NTEA. The Committee was asked to submit its findings and remedial measures for smooth functioning of the institute.
“But no action was taken by the management on the recommendations given by the committee and instead fresh illegal approval has been sought for extension of these persons,” an employee said.
The NIT Director didn’t respond to repeated calls from Greater Kashmir.
