Mother tongue
This refers to V.C Kashmir university Prof Talat Ahmed's statement that "Kashmiris should be proud of their mother tongue". But the fact is that we hesitate to speak in our mother tongue. We encourage our new generation to speak Urdu or English. We need to understand that one can express more lucidly and candidly in his own language. Scholars, policy makers and academicians need to sit and chalk out a well thought out plan so that Kashmiri language can be enriched and encouraged. But at the same time we need to take care of other local and less spoken languages like Pahari, Dardi, Sheena etc so that these languages can be developed further for the sake of those who speak them. History is testament to the fact that the people who forgot their mother tongue have lost their nationhood.
