Obama’s contention over Kashmir unrealistic: Amanullah Khan

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, July 21: The supreme head of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Amanullah Khan has said it was astonishing to note that the US President Barack Obama has retracted his earlier statements wherein he had promised to resolve Kashmir issue provided he was elected president.
“It was extremely surprising that a responsible person like the President of the United States of America would retract from his publicly made promise during the presidential elections saying that if elected he would try his best to get Kashmir Issue solved to satisfaction of Kashmiri people”, Khan said reacting to President Obama’s recent interview wherein he said that the solution of Kashmir dispute lies within.
“President Obama did nothing to fulfill his promise during three years and now comes with the suggestion that India and Pakistan should solve the issue bilaterally and that no outside interference was needed,” he added.
The JKLF supremo maintained that Obama should have not made the promise in the first place that could not have been accomplished and once he made it he should have fulfilled it come what may. “That is what is expected of men of integrity, self-respect and honesty”, he said adding that if India and Pakistan could solve the issue, they could have done it half a century back.
He said that India and Pakistan were bound by Shimla Agreement of 1972, which makes no mention of Kashmiris wishes and aspirations, nor were Kashmiris accepted as a party to the issue despite the fact that Kashmiris happen to be the principal party to the Issue. “India and Pakistan, if they at all can solve the Issue, they will do it in accordance with their own national interests and not according to Kashmiri peoples’ wishes and Aspirations”, he added.
Khan advised people of Jammu and Kashmir State to depend on themselves and not on the so called believers in Justice and equity or in human rights and human dignity.
