Budgam residents decry delay in issuance of voter I-cards
Budgam, July 21: The residents of Budgam are up in arms against the Electoral officials, accusing them of causing inordinate delay in issuing voter identity cards.
“We are running from pillar to post for last three years. However, we have not been issued the ID cards yet. We even visited concerned Electoral Office many a times but the officials there told us to go to Srinagar. Ironically officials in the summer capital said our jurisdiction is Budgam,” said Shabir Ahmad , a local.
“I had to face lot of problems when I was outside the State. Security personnel only honour voter ID card” said Muhammad Iqbal, a student.
Locals said in district Budgam around 75,000 voter ID cards are pending with the department for last three years.
When contacted an official of Electoral office blamed a vendor for the delay.
“The vendor who was given contract for issuing identity cards recently met with an accident and this caused the delay. Hopefully we will receive the cards by Monday,” he added.
