SSM School lifts Shaher-e-Khaas T-20 cricket tournament
Srinagar, July 22: Sir Sayeed Memorial (SSM) school lifted Shaher-e-Khaas T-20 cricket tournament defeating AB Cricket Fighters in the final played at Kashmir University Ground here on Sunday.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
The U-16 T-20 event was organized by All India Centre for Urban & Rural Development (AICURD), a local NGO in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council and army in which 7 teams from Shaher-e-Khaas participated.
The winner team bated first and scored 123 runs in 19 overs while the loser team scored only 100 runs losing all wickets.
Speaking on the occasion, Chib complimented the organizers for holding the event to tap the budding cricket talent at local level and groom them for their participation at national and international levels.
He said that the budding players who are getting training at initial stage of their age would become more competitive, adding that one day they will be able to bring laurels to the state. The Minister sought involvement of private sector for the promotion of sports in the state.
Mr. Chib announced one cricket kit to each team participated in the tournament.
Later, the Minister gave away trophy and cash prize of Rs. 30,000 to the winner and Rs. 20,000 to runner-up teams. Best performers of the tournament were also given cash prizes.
