GEELANI CONDEMNS
Srinagar, July 23: The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday strongly condemned the arrest of a Kashmir University student Peerzada Muhammad Iqbal and shifting of Mushtaq-ul-Islam to Udhampur Jail, demanding their immediate release.
“Geelani on Monday visited Batamaloo where he offered Nimaz-e-Zuhr in a local Masjid and then visited the Mushtaq-ul-Islam’s residence where met his aged mother and other family members,” said a spokesman of the Hurriyat in a statement today, adding that “In his brief speech at the Masjid, Geelani threw light on the blessings of the holy month of Ramadhan.”
Expressing serious concern over the re-arrest of Mushtaq-ul-Islam and his shifting to Udhampur Jail, continued detention of Masrat Alam Bhat and Mir Hafizullah and arrest of students, Geelani alleged the Kashmir police had been transformed into “anti-Muslim force.” “The top brass of the police has been brought from outside the state. Only local police officers who have a communal mindset are posted here. They deem it their national duty to take revenge from whole Kashmiri nation and they often vent their spleen on the Kashmiri prisoners,” said the spokesman.
