Govt failed to protect religious places: Geelani

Srinagar, July 24: Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the fire incident in which a Masjid Sharief was gutted at Wuhangam, Beeru, in district Budgam, the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) alleged that the government has “not only failed to provide protection to the religious places in Valley but has also been taking its own advantage out of these mysterious incidents."
“Setting on fire shrines, Masajid and holy Quran are not accidental incidents but these are the result of some well planned conspiracy to divide Muslims, pit them against one another and deflect their attention from the ongoing freedom movement. New Delhi is active on various fronts to tire out people of Kashmir. While it is using force to silence them, it is also offering one lakh jobs and 25000 scholarships to buy their loyalties. It is trying to whip up Maslaki hatred to involve them in infighting,” said Geelani while addressing a condolence meeting at the residence of late Dr Meraj-ud-Din, Director Information and Technology, University of Kashmir. He described his death a great loss. He paid rich tributes to the deceased and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
Geelani cautioned the people of Kashmir against “conspiracies being hatched by the enemy”, urging them not to pay any heed to the rumours. He also appealed to the people to maintain unity among their ranks at all costs.
