What about us?

Respected CM, we wish you were from our district

OPEN LETTER

NADEEM AHMAD

We, the candidates of Districts Anantnag, Budgam & Shopian were provisionally selected as Teachers by your recruitment board SSB way back in 2011 vide notification no. 07 of 2010 dated 12-11-2010. Unfortunately, our selection lists along with the selection list of District Ganderbal & the overall selection procedure got stayed in the hon’ble HC. We fought this legal battle & got the stay vacated on 6th of June 2012 costing us lakhs of rupees but what added salt to our injuries was that the candidates of district Ganderbal joined days before the vacation of stay. If we all were sailing in the same boat then what trapped us in the whirlpool while our counterparts from Ganderbal were made to join on priority basis. If it is the “CM effect” then we wish either you belonged to our district or we were the inhabitants of your constituency.
We would like to remind you of your promise that, “I will ensure it takes only a weeks time for your joining & all other formalities once the stay is vacated”. Almost two months have passed since the vacation of stay & we are still moving from pillar to post to get our selection list finalized. SSRB passes on the buck to GAD & the later blames the former adding to our agonies.
As if SSRB interview wasn’t enough, that another daunting task was put on our hands. We have to face the questioning faces of our fatigued parents and the society. We were supposed to shoulder the burden of our family but even after recruitment we are dependent & helpless like newly born babies. Majority of us, particularly female candidates should have been married by now but their wait is unending thanks to the callous attitude of the concerned authorities who enjoy their air conditioned rooms without thinking about those who have to borrow even a meager amount of 100 rupees from others to reach Srinagar thus making our social life miserable.
Having said that we are at the receiving end on all levels (personal, social, financial, etc), we hope you will take our issue seriously & bail us out of this bizarre condition. If you being the highest official in our state, whom we can approach, failed to deliver then we have no other option but to leave this halo of civilization & decency & turn ourselves into hooligans to meet our genuine demand. We don’t want to come on roads, we have no intentions of disturbing the law & order, we have nothing to do with disruptive agitations but we being future teachers won’t hesitate a bit in doing anything & everything for attaining justice. Hope you will let us behave as teachers. Thank you, sir.

(Nadeem Ahmad represents the group of newly Selected teachers from Anantnag, Budgam & Shopian)
