Gunmen Fire At Sarpanch’s Residence
Srinagar, July 29: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a man and a Sarpanch escaped a life bid in two separate incidents across the Valley, police said on Sunday.
A police officer said that suspected militants opened fire on Muhammad Rafi Malla son of Ghulam Ahmad of Pahalpora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district last evening.
He said that Malla was coming out from a nearby Masjid after Isha Prayers, when suspected militants opened fire on him. He was shifted to hospital where his condition is stated to be stable.
Police said that they have registered a case in this regard. During the investigation, police said that the identity of the militants who attacked Rafiq Malla has been established as Inam-ul-Haq Malla alias Waseem son of Muhammad Iqbal Malla resident of Pahalpora and Irshad Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Haripora.
SARPANCH’S RESIDENCE ATTACKED
In another incident, unidentified gunmen fired several shots towards the residence of a Sarpanch at Kanispora, Baramulla during the intervening night of July 27/28.
However none was hurt in the incident.
According to reports, unidentified gunmen knocked at the door of Muhammad Maqbool Dar, a Sarpanch from village Kanispora, at around 10.45 pm on Saturday. However, when the family members did not respond to the repeated knocks, the gunmen fired several shots at the door and later escaped from the scene.
GRENADE ATTACK AT SOPORE
Suspected militants Saturday evening hurled a grenade towards Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) housed in State Bank of India (SBI in Sopore town, police said.
The grenade missed the target and exploded on roadside and there was no loss of life or property, police said.
Pertinently, police had earlier denied that there was any grenade attack in Sopore. WITH INPUTS FROM ALTAF BABA
