JK Players Association meets Dr Farooq
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 4: The J&K Players Association Wednesday met the JKCA President Dr Farooq Abdullah here to apprise him about the cricketing scenario in the Valley.
The JKPA president, Ishfaq Ahmad said hundreds of cricketers assembled at the TRC Grounds here to deliberate on the issues facing cricketers. “In the meantime, we got to hear that the JKCA President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, is arriving here from New Delhi. We immediately proceeded to his residence here. He was gracious enough to give us time for deliberations on issues facing the cricketers,” Ahmad said.
He said the members had a detailed discussion on different issues, including the ongoing cricket activities in the Valley. “He listened to our apprehensions and our problems. We told him that despite odds, we have been able to ensure continuation of cricketing activities in the valley in view of our commitment for promotion and development of the game,” Ahmad said. “We made our stand clear that we are not against cricket activities in J&K. In fact, we have been able to pool our own hard earned money to hold a tournament at TRC Ground to ensure that the spirit of the game doesn’t die down.”
Ahmad said that the members informed Dr Farooq that “we welcome holding of any cricket tournament by the JKCA.” But, he said, “Our only rider was that it must constitute the tournament committee which won’t have any office bearer as its member. We will render all possible support to the JKCA tournament. But we made it clear that it ought to have a special committee, devoid of any office bearer of the JKCA.”
