A Dream That BGSBU Fulfills
INSTITUTION
RAYAZ AHMED MALIK
The Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is named after a great sufi saint Hazrat Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah (R.A.) who lived in 1156 Hijri. The shrine of the saint is located in the hilly Shahdra Shareef (Old Sii-Darra) in Tehsil Thannmandi of District Rajouri. The University is situated in the hillocks of Dhanore village in the feet of Peer Panjal range, nearly 9 kms away from Rajouri town. The total land of the University is spread over 8,102 Kanals of undulating slopes.
Right from the year 2004 the university has undergone various stages of development in phased manner. Many buildings and infrastructures including administrative and academic blocks and a number of hostels for boys and girls were constructed within short span of time in the University.
In the year 2005, the University started the PG Courses like MBA, MBA-FM, MCA, M.Sc. Applied Mathematics, and M.A. Arabic. The existence of this apex educational body dedicated to Science, Engineering and Technology is a heartening development to encourage the younger generation to pursue science and technology education. At the very initial stage of its development it got the recognition of AICTE and UGC as well.
BGSBU represents a ray of hope for the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch which faced neglect by the Government. Since the jurisdiction of the University is entire state of Jammu & Kashmir the students from far flung areas of the state are privileged for higher and technical education in the university. Mughal Road or Shopian-Rajouri road also plays a vital role in attracting the students from the Valley. The students prefer to travel through this road as it takes them only three to four hours to reach Rajouri.
The well qualified and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff also belongs to different parts of entire state of J&K and few of them are from outside J&K. All of them are in the service of student fraternity enrolled in the University.
Presently the University runs various M. Phil and Ph.D. Programmes in many subjects, Masters Degree Programme i.e; MBA, MBA-FM, MCA, M.Sc. IT, M.Sc. Applied Maths, M.Sc. Bioresource’s Biotechnology, M.A. Arabic; B. Tech and Diploma Engineering Programmes and Graduation courses e.g. BBA, BCA, B.Sc. IT and B.A. Arabic. These courses are run under the School of Mathematical Sciences & Engineering, School of Management Studies, School of Islamic Studies, School of Biosciences & Biotechnology, etc. In future the University proposes to include M.Sc. Botany and Zoology courses in the School of Biosciences & Biotechnology and few Bachelors and Masters Courses in Tourism Management.
Various facilities in the university are shopping mall, canteens and health care centre for the students and staff. J&K Bank branch is also there in the campus. Online and ATM facilities for students and staff are also the attraction of university Bank branch. Postal services are also carried out in the university in which all the official and unofficial correspondence is made by the students and employees.
The arboriculture and Horticulture wings are also striving to maintain the landscape and scenery in the university campus. A large variety of plantations including flowers and trees are seen to sprout in such an arid land of university. Within a few years, the university campus will have ample scenic beauty.
Peer Panjal Biodiversity park is located on a sizeable part of forest land towards the school of Biosciences. Weather forecasting equipment is also installed in the school for the forecasting of weather conditions of the area.
The university has also tie ups with various student welfare organizations and departments, e.g. Department of Social welfare and Department of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of J&K and Ministry of Minority welfare, Govt. of India. These organizations provide scholarship to needy and deserving students of the university so that they can continue their studies.
