Only Righteousness Prevails
Materialism has eaten into the very vitals of our society
LESSON
PROF. HABIBULLAH JEELANI
The present day world is marked by disintegration of social and moral fabric, direct outcome of materialistic. The sole aim and objective is to amass wealth by hook or crook. Social status is directly linked with the volume of wealth amassed by an individual. Sense of righteousness and morality has been pushed to the wall in every sphere of life under all circumstances. It is only wealth that matters most. This malaise has corrupted every individual. The be-all and end-all of life is wealth, power and pelf.
It is erroneously believed by the people that respect or recognition could be commanded only by means of wealth. As a matter of fact wealth in itself is not an end but only a means to an end. No doubt, one can manage all luxuries of life with the help of material resources and money but it is quite impossible and inconceivable to attain peace of mind.
It is most unfortunate that in the present day scenario it is the elite people, who are supposed to be the beacon of light and source of inspiration for the commoners, are obsessively and excessively immersed in this malaise of materialism. The worst part of it is that materialistic approach that leads to alienation between one individual and another. Obviously no forum, party or organisation can remain immune from it. The malaise of materialism has seeped into almost all the religious and political parties on our soil. The main cause of factionalism is attributable to materialistic considerations persisting among the leaders heading their respective parties. It acts as slow poisoning to corrode the very spirit and soul of humanity. It is a diabolical weapon that cuts both ways. It corrupts the minds and pollutes the souls. It tends to sow the seeds of bitterness, antipathy and animosity in the minds and hearts of the people. It annihilates the sense of accountability and transparency from social life.
This demon of materialism has led to a horrible and a mind-boggling type of rat-race and cut-throat competition among the individuals of present day society. It is the most unfortunate and alarming state of affairs that even our leaders, who are stridently claiming to represent our aspirations and expectations, too have plunged headlong into the bottomless pit. It is a matter of common knowledge and understanding that inestimably huge assets in the form of hotels, shopping malls, imported vehicles, landed property, orchards, companies, private enterprises, palatial mansions, bank balances have been accumulated by the pseudo sympathisers of the people spearheading the freedom struggle.
The malaise has percolated even into the ranks of Govt. Officials, bureaucrats, mainstream politicians, so-called resistance politicians and rulers. As a result of which the expectations and aspirations of common masses that look up to them for the ultimate redress of grievance and achievement of the long cherished goal are dashed to the ground. It gives birth to the sense of disillusionment, alienation, disunity, disgruntlement, desperation and frustration.
At the end of the day, the panacea to mitigate the malaise of waywardness, social anarchy, political uncertainty, economic instability, disturbance, unrest and such other undesirable things is to pursue the path of righteousness because righteousness alone prevails and survives.
